Cinco de Mayo is the annual commemoration of Mexico’s victory led by Ignacio Zaragoza Seguin over the French forces headed by Napoleon III during the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. As a cherished national holiday, celebrations are held throughout Mexico and cities and towns across the Southwestern United States to mark the holiday. Mexican-American families celebrate the occasion by hosting parties and other festivities such as listening and dancing to festive Mariachi music, lots of eating and mucho drinking! Pinatas, sombreros, serapes and Cinco de Mayo Costumes are almost mandatory additions to make May 5th all the more joyous
